Deputy Director of Finance

Fixed term role until 30th June 2026.

Are you a strategic finance leader ready to make a significant impact in a dynamic university environment? Wrexham University is seeking an experienced and visionary Deputy Director of Finance to support the delivery of our financial strategy. 

 About the Role

As Deputy Director of Finance, you will play a pivotal role in leading financial planning, operations, payroll, pensions and statutory reporting. You’ll work closely with the Executive Director of Finance to align departmental goals with university-wide objectives, drive continuous improvement and ensure compliance with all regulatory and internal policies.

You’ll lead a multidisciplinary team and be responsible for:

  • Strategic financial planning and forecasting
  • Oversight of budgeting and reporting cycles
  • External reporting including statutory accounts and regulatory returns
  • Business partnering and financial analysis
  • Driving innovation and efficiency across finance functions

About You

We’re looking for a CCAB-qualified accountant with:

  • Substantial post-qualification experience in senior finance roles within large, complex organisations
  • Expertise in financial controls, accounting standards (FRS102), and external reporting
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to manage operational detail
  • Experience in Higher Education is desirable
